Try Mt. Fuji. It is probably the most recognizable thing about Japan. It should be pretty easy to make a model of it. There are millions of pictures of it on-line.

Manga school in japan

Manga school in japan?
Hey, I'm a 16 year old studying in Singapore. I'd like to attend manga school in japan after my studies here, which means I'd be 20 when I'm done. I'd like to know what good manga schools are there in singapore/japan, and how do I go about entering one. I'm planning on learning Japanese next year, as this year I have major exams. I'm currently in a manga class in singapore.

No manga school in Japan. Young people start to apply Manga contests which was held on the mags, such as Shonen Jump, Shonen Champion. And there is no school which hold a class in English in Japan.
3 :
Hmm, but what if I plan to only head over when I'm slightly over, and learn japanese as soon as my Os are over? I do realise that i's crucial to learn japanese for such schools. Also, The last time I went to Japan on a tour I can across a school called Yoyogi Animation Gakuin. I'm wondering, Is it just an animation school, or does it also teaches manga?

Are there any medical schools in japan that teach in english

Are there any medical schools in japan that teach in english?
I want to study medical in japan when i am older, but i'm not so fluent with my japanese. I still have 2 years to go until i choose a medical school, but i would really love to learn in japan. Is there any medical schools that teach their courses in japan? ありがとうございました! Lucy

You'll need fluency in Japanese to become a doctor or most other medical type fields in Japan. Not just fluency in regular Japanese but you have the added items of having to understand Japanese medical terminology. Naturally medical schools in Japan are in Japanese.
2 :
You'll need fluency in Japanese to become a doctor
3 :
There is no medical schools in Japan that teach in English. I don't know why you want to study in Japan, but US is as advanced in medical field as Japan, so why don't you go to the states??
4 :
You can study medicine in Japan in English in a limited capacity. For example, you can get a research grant and basically do your own study, but through a university. You would have an advisor, you would submit reports. I know that's available at Tohoku University in Sendai. Einstein visited there. It's a pretty major educational institute. As far as actual classes in medicine go at the university level, it would be in Japanese. If you just want to spend time in Japan, go for the research grant thing. If you actually want to learn about Japanese medicine, then go to unversity in Japan and prepare to study a lot of Japanese. People do it. It's not unheard of. Then again, if you're going to go that far, you might as well study traditional Chinese medicine in China. That's a whole world that the West doesn't pay enough attention to. Just don't believe what they say about seal penis. Stick to the herbs. Chinese is supposed to be easier to learn than Japanese anyway, from an English perspective. Plus you'd get the benefit of being in a country with a massive economic surge forward. Things in China are either old and antiquated or ultra-state-of-the-art. Chances are mom and dad don't want you to be far from home for too long though, right? Just go the easy route. Be a normal doctor with a "Japan experience" - that one year you spent in Japan doing "research" and the government paid you a crazy amount of money to do so. Maybe you can throw some karate lessons and a boyfriend in too while you're there.
5 :
You'll need advanced Japanese language skills to learn anything (other than the Japanese language) in Japan. It's not impossible though. If you're looking for a good place to learn japanese, try http://www.japanesepod101.com . But if you're looking to learn a little Japanese while at a medical school in Japan, I'm sorry to say that it's not possible. If you were already an MD, and you wanted to get transferred to Japan, then Japanese language skills might not be as important, but if you are in medical school, anything less than fluent Japanese won't be acceptable. どういたしまして!Sorry to bring you such bad news! But 一生懸命がんばって and I'm sure you'll to do it!

I don't know it, but my cousin who's Canadian teaches common science and chemistry in English for Japanese students in Japan now.

You need to research organizations that work with students that want to study abroad and offer study abroad in Japan. A good one I was considering going with is CEA. I know there are many organizations out there that work with students. Main thing to check for when you are researching organizations and programs is to make sure that your credits are going to transfer. I'm sure if you type in study abroad in google many organizations are going to come up in the results. Some organizations are better than others so you will want to go with the one that looks the best to you and works with a school oversees that offers what you need. Another thing to do is to go talk to a study abroad counselor at your school they should already have a list of third party organizations that offer study abroad in Japan, if your school doesn't have one try going to your regular advisor or counselor and they should be able to help you some. Good luck!
2 :
You can do a study abroad program via another school. For example, NYU offers study abroad opportunities for people who are not NYU students. I believe that Syracuse, Boston University, and SUNY (New Paltz, Oneonta and others) also offer study abroad opportunities that are open to students from other universities. These are often in the summer, but they can be during term-time. Your home university's student exchange office should be able to provide you with a list of opportunities. I'll link to a few, below, to get you started. In addition, you can sometimes arrange your own time abroad directly with the foreign university. For example, Charles University, in Prague, offers semester, summer and year-long programs for foreign students who want to learn Czech. I'd imagine some of the Japanese universities would offer similar. You'd need to research the universities and check their webpages or contact them directly. But the easiest thing will probably to be to go through another US university.

Hi!! there is a great exchange program in Japan, called World Campus International. You can check it out on www.worldcampus.org. If you need more information, you can e-mail me, or somebody of the contacts on that site. Hope this answer helps you!
5 :
I found my study abroad advisor to be useless- this is what I ended up doing. I surfed the net and found two programs I liked- one for Tokyo Metropolitan University and one for World Link education. You don't need to go through your school office to participate, however it does mean you have to do all the paperwork yourself. As for going on other schools' programs, you are at the mercy of their open slots and extra fees. There may not be slots open for you after a program is open to their students, and the fees for "visitor tuition" are ridiculous. You may as well go by yourself for that price. Studying abroad is the best thing I ever did. I learned way more Japanese than I did in the states.

If you are looking for a boarding school for English education, there is an international school in Hokkaido, called the Hokkaido International school.
2 :
Most international schools are boarding schools. There are some mission schools that are boarding schools also. One the comes to mind is Saniku High School in Chiba. It is run by a Christian denomination called the Seventh-Day Adventists. They also have several native English speakers in their English department.
3 :
Doshisha International Highschool in Kyoto is not a complete boarding school but has a dorm. They also have many Japanese American / Native English speakers attending. http://www.intnl.doshisha.ac.jp/indexE.html Also ICU (International Christian University) High School In Tokyo has a dorm. http://www.icu-h.ed.jp/ (Couldn't find a English page but you can always contact them) And Gyosei International Highschool is a boarding school in Chiba that has a "International Course". http://www.gis.ac.jp/ (Couldn't find a English page for this one either...)

Well, the only way is the exchange program, where the japanese students and students from other countries exchange abroad. For now, i don't think you should be worrying about plane tickets and the cost, because you need to know if you can get into the exchange program first of all. But if you really wanna know plane tickets could vary, depending on when you go. Summers could cost you probably around $1000.

Are there any great art schools in Japan with English programs?
I am a freshmen in a community college. Currently studying both Graphic design and Japanese. I love both fields but it's rare to find an art school that offer study abroad opportunities in Japan or even offer its language. So... Are there any great art schools in Japan with English programs? (I've been studying Japanese for five years now but I am not that good yet and I really want to learn the language. I know that if you REALLY want to learn it, you must live there for AT LEAST a year or two.)

Normally, you enroll in a Japanese language school and cram for six months to a year so you learn enough Japanese to survive school. If you want to go to art school in Japan, that's pretty much what you'll have to do.

In colleges in Japan, what after-school clubs do most boys go to?
I read that most people in Japan go to an after-school club most days of the week. Which ones do most boys go to? Please dont just say sports, please be specific :) Thanks

1 :
Recently the most popular sport is Soft ball/Base ball, among boys in Japan. They call it yakkyu. Second most popular sport would be basketball. they call it basukettobooru. Went for a school exchange recently so that's what they said.
2 :
In Japan, most of college students have part-time job after school in week days. Not so many people go to clubs in weekdays, maybe 1 of 10 people belong to sports club or sub-study classes to get qualification in weekdays. But most of college students belong to some clubs which will hold in holiday. Most popular club is Tennis or Snow board. That clubs have many members and students can make many friends there. Some times they can't get ground space because of such a popularity,so they often become all-around club or drinking club.
3 :
It's really not that different than what typical Western college guys do after classes: spend time with girlfriend, go home and study, drink beer with friends, go to a part-time job, play baseball, go to McDonald's, play Play Station, pick on younger brother, listen to music, be in a band, study English, pat the cat, ...
4 :
Boys in college? I think you mean men in college. Anyway, they do the same things we do. The only difference is that there isn't many open grass fields avilable in places like tokyo.
5 :
Popular sports in Japan include Kendo, Judo, Baseball (If they have a team) I know a lot of guys from Japan who takes Judo or Kendo classes. They're really competitive sports. I mean very.

ASIJ is probably the most well known. Several famous people (writers, scientists, politicians, musicians, actors, etc.) from all over the world went there and most graduates go on to have pretty prestigious jobs. In all fairness all of them are very good schools with excellent teachers and a strong programs. I went to both ASIJ and Seisen International and thought they were both excellent.

What Is A Good High School Foreign Exchange Program? Japan Or Italy?
Alright, I'm planning on going to Japan for a foreign exchange program, maybe Italy. [I haven't made up my mind. But if you have went to Italy or Japan when you were in high school. Tell me what your experience was like?] Now, I have around a 3.0 GPA which is typically enough, but I was wondering what other people have done, and which would be less expensive.

I myself have chosen rotary for japan it is very inexpensive ranging from 4,100 to 4,500 they give you a rotary counselor for the country you reside in and as well do backround checks for the host families Italy and Japan are just two of the countries they do many and with a 3.0 you should be fine but you also have to do interview
2 :
Just like the answer above I chose rotary as well. It is cheap, the are very strict about the family's they choose to allow in their program. I went to japan, lived in the city of Noda, north of tokyo about an hour i had a BLAST best experience of my life.

Yes. My elementary school had such rule which we always ignored. "Buy snack after school" is called kaigui (literally means buy-eat) and it's not so welcomed attitude for elementary students. Some reasons of this rule are possible trouble by bringing money to schools and unhealthy diet by eating snacks because kids become not hungry at dinner time.

Do you have a work visa or a holiday work visa? If so, you can go to several websites and find jobs. The best one is http://www.gaijinpot.com but you can go to others: http://www.ohayosensei.com http://www.jobsinjapan.com http://www.daijob.com You can search for a job on all those sites. If you do not have a work visa or otherwise, you may find it hard to find a legal part time job. In that case, you can go to one of the English instruction schools, but they usually don't offer part time jobs. However, you can get a visa through them. The main ones are: Nova, Aeon, ECC, and Geos. There are many other smaller companies, as well. Look around Nagoya and I'm sure you can find many of them. Be aware that NOVA has a very bad reputation for treating their teachers like garbage. http://www.teachinjapan.com/ - NOVA http://www.geoscareer.com/ - Geos http://www.aeonet.com/ - Aeon http://www.japanbound.com/ - ECC
3 :
what exactly will you be teaching? If you are a fluent Japanese speaker than it shouldn't be too difficult. If you only speak english then it's relatively difficult because most Juku langauge teachers are japanese and they teach mostly in Japanese as well. You'll have to be able to explain and teach in Japanese.

Do graduate schools in Japan require having studied the major subject previously at the undergrad level?
I heard that in Japan, you can go to graduate school for a given subject without having studied it first for your bachelor's degree. Is that really true?
Studying Abroad - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

Yes, it is true. I was just speaking to my Japanese friend about it. She said that you can study any subject for your masters or doctorate (graduate level) in Japan without needing to know the subject before hand or needing a prerequisite, mainly because a masters or doctorate is not necessary to find a job in Japan. She went on further to explain that it's actually a minus if you have a masters or doctorate in Japan. Mainly because the businesses or companies who are hiring want their workers (employees) to be as young as possible. To have a masters or a doctorate would mean you'd have aged a bit, and that is not necessary. But if you're not looking for work in Japan, but just want to study there, then you have no problems. However if you have are planning on finding work there after your masters or doctorate or whatever degree in graduate level---it might pose a problem. Or unless you plan on being a professor because then you would need a masters or doctorate.

If schools in Japan has been accredited by Ministry of education, Culture, Sports, science and Technology, it is certainly and officially admitted or accepted by government. We usually enter such schools as those because we need to be certified. So, the school is supposed to be normal and healthy. Unfortunately since the approval of the government is usual transaction for establishing school, there are few benefits or advantage I guess.
2 :
In order to grant student visas a school has to be accredited by the education ministry. Like sushi says, it doesn't guarantee the quality of the program. However I think IUJ is a good school. I have been to the campus and I can tell you it is very much in the middle of nowhere. My impression is that a good chunk of the students and faculty are primarily concerned with international development studies, which doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the MBA program. If you are going to consider IUJ I guess you would be bound to compare it to Temple and Mcgill's Tokyo based MBA programs.
3 :
Several Graduate schools were funded newly in the last 5 years. However, I doubt the quality of the MBA program which are held in English in Japan. And nobody knows Darthmouth's Tuck School of Business. In Japan, degree doesn't work that much. Language is more important if you work in the Japanese society. Japan is mono culture. 98% of the population is Japanese. People don't speak English. I think you better finish in the U.S. Or check Waseda or Keio Univ.

japan, school uniform

japan, school uniform?
Hii^^ I want to go to Japan at a age of 17! (im 15). So i have some questions about school uniforms!^_^ I really love school uniforms and I wish we had it here, but sadly no. Well my questions is particularly, where can I buy a japanese school uniform online? I come from Denmark, and i want to buy one for when (if) i get to go to school there. It shall NOT be a cosplay! A REAL uniform! BUT, also, have the schools some uniforms you HAVE to wear? I mean, some special designs? Like, does the school have ONE school uniform everyone (in this case the girls) wear? or can you just buy any school uniform and then use that? Also, IF the school have a particular uniform EVERY of the girls have to wear, can you please gives me som sites to some REAL uniforms in Japan? So i can see how some of the school's in Japan's uniforms looks like?

Different schools have different uniforms. The design of a certain school is not necessarily the same design of another school. Also, some uniforms require a certain top and same color socks. If you want to buy one online, you should try to find out which school you would be going to, and see if you can purchase one from them directly.
2 :
Generally speaking, every school has its own uniform. You have to buy the uniform of the school you will apply to.
3 :
http://www.cosmates.jp/shop/product_info/products_id/6249/ This one looks exactly a normal Japanese school uniform. I don't know much about girl's uniforms but I can say this one looks like real at least. However, I don't know why we can see the model's belly; that didn't happen in my school life. LOL. You need to wear something below the sailor fuku. >Like, does the school have ONE school uniform everyone (in this case the girls) wear? LMAO! Yes. The uniform uniforms everyone in the same school in appearance. That's what it's supposed to do.

What do you make of school bullying

What do you make of school bullying?
In Japan, school bullying is said to be one of the serious social problems, and also many youngsters have committed suicide in the past because of it. But even teachers have no ideas about how to cope with the problem. The number of casualties for the school bullying has been increased every year. So what do you think is the best bet for the solution?

Sure it's a problem, but I don't think it'd be easily fixed in Japan. They are an AMAZING country and honor is still a very big thing there. That's mostly a very good thing, but it can also very dangerous. I don't think that most of them are committing suicide because they can't cope, but because they see it as dishonorable on their family BECAUSE they can't cope. Actually suicide is also common in Japan for students that can't get into the college they want, or those that have to drop out. It's all about honor. The only way that I can see this easily being taken care of is to slowly let the importance of that type of honor fade away... but that causes other problems. It's like being in between a rock and a hard place really. Keep in mind that this is just my opinion based on their society today, and the past of their society. I can't prove that the students hate the bullying due to inflictions on their honor, but I believe that is a big part of it. I would still rather be in the Japanese school system however, because I love the hard working, pretty much amazing in every way mindset out there. If the bullying weren't a problem it would be perfect in my opinion.

How many hours a day do students in japan go to school

How many hours a day do students in japan go to school?
I'm in the 10th grade, what classes would I be taking if I was in japan?

I teach at a high school. At my school, classes start at 8:30 in the morning and end around 3:30, with club activities and stuff after school. There are six periods in the day plus home room, and the students in certain advanced classes have an extra seventh-period class some days of the week. There are three years of high school, and the first year students are the equivalent of 10th graders. They take General Science, Japanese Classics, Japanese Language, Math, World History, Computers, P.E., three different English classes (General English, Read/Writing, and Oral Communication), Home Economics, and their choice of Art, Music, Calligraphy, or Pottery. They have different subjects every day, and have each class once or twice a week. Instead of each student having their own schedule, they`re divided up into classes of 40 students that all have all the same classes together. At my school the second and third year classes have specialties; for example, the students in Class 1 have extra art lessons, while the students in Class 3 have extra Japanese and English classes. But the first year students just take a little bit of everything.
2 :
You go to school around 8-9am and leave around 2-3pm. It's about 6 hours. If you are a member of any club, you might stay and do club activity after classes. The classes for 10th graders are like, Japanese, math, science, history (Japanese history or world history), geography, English, music, art, gym and so on.
3 :
It's about the same as American school. But some students go to a cram school after school. Just today I was eating dinner and I watched a few girls get out of a second school and it is already 8 pm here. So, it depends on what extracurricular activities they have going on. I see a lot of boys doing baseball here in Okinawa.

In Japan, do they use the terms sophomore, junior, and senior when referring to high school students

In Japan, do they use the terms sophomore, junior, and senior when referring to high school students?
I heard that in Japan, upper secondary school, or high school, is only constituted of grades 10-12, so I was just wondering if those terms are used. Like, would a Japanese student in 12th grade be considered a senior? Sorry if this sounds dumb, but I know what applies in the U.S. doesn't always apply in other countries...
Primary & Secondary Education - 3 Answers

they probably use the terms, however it might not be the norm. they might just use the number instead.
2 :
Um, you know they don't use English there, right? Senior シニア Junior ジュニア Sophomore 2年生 (just means 2nd year of secondary) Freshman フレッシュマン This only applies to High school, not University
3 :
No, they don't have terms. And instead of 10th,11th, and 12th, they use 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. That applies to junior high, high school, and college. So..... you would say "so and so is a 1st grade high school student" hope it helped lol :)

What are some good study abroad programs for high school summer sessions in Japan

What are some good study abroad programs for high school summer sessions in Japan?
I'm a Junior in high school at the moment, and would really love to spend the summer in Japan, learning the language and culture. I'd like a host family, but wouldn't mind staying in a dorm. Any suggestions?

The summer as in this summer right around the corner? It's more than likely too late to apply now for most programs. LanguBridge's summer program in Tokyo still [barely] is open: http://www.langubridge.org/tksumfee.htm but it's quite costly and does not include airfare (flying to Japan and back is about $1200USD). They also don't have the best reviews (mainly the testing was too difficult and the classrooms too cramped). Although I am almost 100% sure application is closed now because usually it ends March 31st, for next year (anyone can attend of any age) you might consider keeping an eye on the America-Japan Grassroots Summit. You and a group of others go to a city in Japan usually spending a night in a traditional inn, then homestaying for about a week, and then you go on to another city of your choice. Most of the cities they send you to are small and more rural and so the city after that is usually much bigger: like Kyoto or Tokyo or whatever you choose. During your homestay you spend a lot of time being guided around by the people in charge of the program, but on your other trip you're basically free to do as you please and you don't have a homestay family at this point in time either. You don't take any language classes in particular, but you do visit many cultural sites. I went in 2007 so if you want to know more you can ask me.

university of tokyo, kyoto university.... these are the best universities. before going to japan, it might be better if you know basic japanese (writing too). maybe start from your country.
2 :
Well, what is 'best'? It entirely depends on your circumstances. How old are you? Are you in university? And what do you want to use your Japanese for? How much time do you have? For speaking/writing/etc. It would help a lot if you could provide more details like that. If you are in university and want to spend some time in Japan over summer, I would recommend this programme: http://www.ritsumei.ac.jp/eng/international_programs/rsjp/index.shtml Especially because it is based in Kyoto, you would have a good chance to get to know Japan better. If you are already out of school/uni, then perhaps it would be a good option to actually find a job in Japan, for example as an English teacher. You could then study Japanese in your free time but would also learn a lot of Japanese through all the contacts you will have in your job/general life.

The MEXT scholarship (文部科学省奨学金) is the holy grail of all Japanese scholarships. It provides for all school and examination fees, and a decent stipend. For others, check out JASSO. Taking the EJU (日本留学試験) gives you a shot at getting a scholarship worth 600,000 yen. There are other public and local bodies in Japan offering scholarships as well. If you can't understand Japanese well, feel free to contact me. I'll respond when I am available to. REMOVEMEpeardruidREMOVEME[at] hotmail[dot]com

Are there more flexible exchange programs in Japan for high school students

Are there more flexible exchange programs in Japan for high school students?
I want to study abroad in Japan in the spring of 09, but I have specific dates I have open to go. Are there any programs that are more flexible? I would need to leave mid-January and get back in early June.

I studied abroad with Rotary International, which was actually a year-long prgram, but you can pobably check into if they'll do a semester. Other than being year-long, they were flexible on dates to come and go and let kids go home early if they didn't enjoy it. Now I'm studying with CIEE this year but the people in the US suck and I don't know if they do a high school program.
2 :
There is one that I recommend called KCP International. It is an extensive Japanese language and culture learning class that you can take over the summer. The cool part about it is that you can either live in the dorms or with a Japanese family. I have tried it and loved it!! You can give it a try!!! Hope this helps! Ja-na! (See you later)

Food is very important in the Japanese Culture. A meal is a social event. Refusing to try foods would appear rude. I would suggest you try to find a family with the same standards or wait until you can visit on your own.
2 :
Part of being an exchange student is learning to compromise and fit in with other cultures. Most organizations will have you list food and diet on the application and your host family will pick you knowing that. However, you should be prepared to "give in" a little if necessary to avoid being rude. Extreme rigidity will definitely hinder your exchange experience. If you wait until you go to college, you can then live at a university or other student housing and pick your own food.

Anyone knows what is an open school in japan?

Anyone knows what is an open school in japan??
I am going to japan to study this september, but i heard they have an open school. One of the problems of going to japan has been that well they start on april and i will have to enter to a grade thats already started, finish it and then start it again. My question is... Some one told me an open school is when new students go to the school or something like that, but I'm not shour because i think its wierd that they are having an open school right now at the midle of the year... ¿thoes that means that the school its starting now in september? ¿Or is it normal for a school in japan to have an open school right now? ¿What do you think?
Japan - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
No public schools start in September. The word "open school" is used for a sort of "trial class" of a few days for those who are interested in a school. And they are sometimes held now because regular classes are in summer holiday. I think "someone" meant that.
